"Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, ... 'She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.' All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 'Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel' (which means, God with us)."
"And there was a prophetess, Anna, ... she began to give thanks to God and to speak of Jesus to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem."
- Matthew 1:20-23, Luke 2:36-38
lyrics
O come, O come Immanuel,
And ransom captive Israel
Who mourns in lowly exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
O come, thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Cheer our spirits by thine advent here.
Disperse the gloomy shades of night,
And pierce the clouds and bring us light.
O come, thou wisdom from on high
Who orders all things by thy might.
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.
O come, desire of nations, bind
Bind all people in one heart and mind.
Bid envy strife and quarrels cease,
Fill all the world with heaven's peace.
O come, thou rod of Jesse, free
Free thine own from Satan's tyrrany.
From sin and hell thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Immanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

“O Come, O Come, Immanuel” was written in Latin by somebody a really long time ago who spelled “Immanuel” with an “E” long before the song was translated into English by John Neale in the 1850s. The words and music are in the public domain, and they were arranged by Cornerstone Church Music in 2013.
